Web Groups

The following are some of the boating-related web groups I belong to:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amfsunbird/ – this one gets listed first because I RUN IT!  After running an email list off of my pesonal website, I founded this group on Aug 13, 2002, as a way to get AMF Sunbird owners together, predominantly to help with the boats’ Achilles Heel, the centerboard.  From the 30 odd folks I was emailing with back in ’02, I’ve ended up with over 475 members, many of which are very active with their boats AND their posts.  We even have a member in Nigeria, who came to our get-together in Ft. DeSoto Park a few years back.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amf_puffer/ – a group dedicated to the Sunbird’s little sister, the Puffer.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/multihull_boatbuilder/ – the motherload of multihull guruage… I can’t believe how many names I recognize!  But, as, or even more impressive, is the knowledge that the other, non-professional members have…. it’s like a sailing Mensa group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sailbirds/ – Boy, was I glad to find this site…. after I bought the Sailbird, I was almost afraid there wouldn’t be one for the trimaran, and I’d have to do it all over again (I found the group a couple of weeks after Frank started it, and was the 5th member to join)!  But Frank does a great job with the site, along with all the extremely helpful knowledge posted by the membership.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wctss/ – The West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron is an online group of small boat sailors and adventurers, a number of which have competed in the Everglades Challenge.  They also put together numerous cruises and events throughout the year.  Sue and I are looking forward to our first sail with them this June.
